The First Hurdle

We all knew going into this journey that there would be many hurdles on the way to Olympic Gold. Maybe we didn't realize that they would be so soon and so high. As we had our second skype meeting tonight, we quickly discovered what that first hurdle is. Money. Money makes the world go 'round, and money is going to have to make this team go round' the world. To sign up for this first season of league curling, it is $195 for each member. We assessed what we have and what we need and figured out that we need to find a way to scrap together $370 in 2 weeks.

The scramble was on, whispers of doubt crept into my mind, but the worry was quickly washed away by enthusiasm in sacrifice for the dream. Jonathan broke out the coin jar and found upwards of $60. Zack selflessly found some VISA gift cards and gave them all to the cause. Phil volunteered to sell golf clubs that he didn't use. I was inspired and my heart was warmed.

Up until this moment, I had thought that I was the most enthusiastic about this dream and that I was leading the charge. But as I heard all three of my close friends sacrificing things without hesitation, I realized that we are in this as a team. We faced this first hurdle, and though we haven't yet jumped it, we are hoisting each other up instead of climbing on our own. This sense of teamwork will be much needed well down the road, and I can't wait to jump the rest of the hurdles with this team.
